Default Tyria: where to live?

I've been toying idly with the question of where exactly I'd settle down, with children and all, for the time from GW1 to GW2. Where to settle down for a happy retirement?

And then I found out that this was not exactly a simple question. Where are you going to be safe? Where is the climate pleasant? The land developed?

Kryta:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_23.jpg
Certainly nice looking, very South eastern Asia feel, and we're well respected by the Royalty, what with having significantly contributed to their rise to rule. By the time of GW2, still human occupied, far from dragons, which is kinda nice as a bonus. Worried about bugs, though, seems a bit on the swampy side...
Also... those huge building agglomerations sure look crowded...

Maguuma jungles:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_11.jpg
Lovely looks, certainly unpolluted. Kinda undeveloped, though.

Shiverpeaks:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_26.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_27.jpg
Well, southern ones only, of course, else we'd grow ice on extremities when the dragon wakes up. So, the lands now under the dwarves. Snowy, nice looking. I'd be a bit worried about the areas previously under the stone summit, the environment seems to have suffered a bit. Plus, you'll be having Norn moving in soon. Good if you like ale, but keep your hammer handy.

Shing Jea:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ing_screen.jpg
I hear there's a lot of excellent educational possiblities around. Nice calm place, plenty of trainee warriors and assassins to take care of pests. Getting a permit to live there might be a problem, though, what with the ban. Also, you'd better have a good idea of how to get past the deep sea dragon AND Zhaitan to get back to Kryta if you want to play in GW2.

Kaineng city:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ing_screen.jpg
What, you'd want to spend MORE time in that urban hive? With nicer placees only 5 minutes away? Also remember those damn Am Fah and Jade brotherhoos have quite killy builds...

Jade sea:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ing_screen.jpg
Well, obviously, you need to be Luxon allied for this. No vegetation, but then, also no mud for when the offspring come stomping back inside after playing all day long. Kurzick raiders a problem. Also, I can't shake the feeling that it'd get awful hot in the sun. Neighbours only respect force, which can be a good or a bad thing, depends on you

Echovald:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ing_screen.jpg
Kinda lacks sun, Luxon raiders aplenty. Still, vegetation is growing anew, there's supposed to be lovely concerts available, and the masons sing instead of cursing. Of course, the kids will grow up to be goths no matter what you do...

Istan:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fileeltatemple.jpg
Nice beaches, swamps and ruins. Of course, the populace in the capital are genetically predisposed to always yell, so you'll need earmuffs when you go to get yourself a building permit.

Vabbi:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Floatingmosque2.jpg
Oooooh, yeah, baby, luxury aplenty. Education too. Riches. Until Palawa joko redirects the Elon and you're left with nothing but desert.

Kourna:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Mudhuts1.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...island-lrg.jpg
Same problem as with Vabbi, except you start out dry AND the local populace is still hostile on account of you having killed plenty of their sons and daughters while they were serving their tour of duty (some even conscripted)

Sulphurous wastes:
You START OUT with the worst of the above, and even after 200 years, half the neighbours will still be around to hold grudges over borrowed lawnmowers and incontinent dogs. Plus, the boss seems a bit unstable.

Some bad ideas:

Ring of fire:
You sure it's worth it just to save up on the heating bill? Plus, are they still there at all? When Zhaitan wakes up?

Lands of Ascalon:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Steppe1b.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_02.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_06.jpg
Remembering the lower image... maybe because any surviving children would by definition be tough SoBs? And you'd deserve the B in SoB for getting them born there...

The Mists
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:...ept_Art_14.jpg
...not until inevitable

Mind you, you could go for extra large tracts of land in the area where the previous owners were evicted. Some cleanup and landscaping may be needed, but at least a permit won't be a problem, since you've helped the lord ascend...

I vote the island in the northwest with the bowling monkeys. But if you can't get a boat there, I suppose I would advise Kryta, near the ascalon settlement or divinity coast region. Just take over one of the ancient towers and you might be free of the bugs as you're farther from swampier regions. Or the wizard's tower in kessex seems nice. If you want someplace more secluded and colder though, southern shiverpeaks do seem a good bet. Stone Summit and Mursaat are gone, though so are the dwarves. Maybe you can get in good graces with the Centaurs and Avicara.
You could also live with the asura in rata sum, your kids will learn a lot but possibly you will all be blown to pieces by an invention gone wrong.

No to all of Cantha, as you can probably move there before ban but they will still be racist *$^&'s afterwards. Vabbi, Desolation and Kourna have Joko problems, Istan would be alright but not my first or fifth choice. Charr homelands look nice but dragon problems still I believe. Ascalon also gets a no, because the land is a waste, but the crystal desert and ring of fire are quite doable actually, if you build your home right. Can't say there is a large pressing reason to choose either though.

I may be mistaken... but the dragons don't awake in the lifetime of our toons I think. So some of the problems stated are not really anything that char would have to consider since it would not affect him/her.

Anyways... my ranger will retire to ventaris sanctuary at the sylvari tree.

The best place to settle down for you and your family is probably pre-searing.... But if you left already, maybe Alcazia Tangle, on the coast.

I'd probably take the place behind Verata. He won't mind, once his corpse becomes "one with the minions".

I'd love to live in the Charr Homelands. It's like pre-searing ascalon without cities.
Otherwise a house in echovald seems nice too.

Umm...most people living in pre-searing died in the searing right? Not that safe.

Not Tyria: Jade Sea. Outcast groups are fun to kill, even with the Displacement they put up (they don't have ST).

Dredge with reversal of fortune and Life Bond, not so much.

Tyria: probably Kryta. LA is good times.

Just so long as you get those swimming lessons, or just buy a boat for when it eventually floods.

Well, apart from a few obviously joking posts, yes. If people offered some reasons for why they'd settle in a specific location, we could actually discoss those too.

Of course, no discussion is as meaningful as another fast UWSC

We used to joke around about this in the alliance and it was comical when you came to think of the problems of wildlife etc but we didnt go as far as gw2.
One joke was selling property in plains of jarin - must be gd farming land as the damn plant life flourishes there but you do get the odd ant and drake problem now an then.

Ascalon City, the promise of ghosts and the devastated landscape is alluring.

Shing Jea sounds fine. As long as the emperor doesn't decide to kill all foreigners, and just throws out non-humans, you'd be fine (y'know, I did save the empire and his daddy), so if he gave me a nice place, I could score a hot Canthan chick, and enjoy the beaches and lack of dangerous monsters.
